December 1-5

Our story this week is In the Money. (I'm sorry the picture is sideways. I don't know what's going on!) This is an expository text - it's about real people, places, and things.
See the Lookybook @ the bottom of the page - it relates to this week's story.)

Concept / Question Board - Students are encouraged to bring in items for our "Around the Town" board. They can bring in articles, pictures, and items that have anything to do with our community. We already have pictures of places in our communitym, as well as "cars" and "homes" on our pretend street.

Is that a reindeer?

No, it's our Win! He was not too happy about wearing the reindeer ears!
Here's Coach Davis trying to get Win to look @ the camera!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

in our classroom.
We put our Christmas tree up Friday so we'll be ready for Christmas when we get back from our week off!

Math Journals

Here we are working hard in our Math Journals last week.

Pie In the Face Results

Okay...I've tried to get my camera to come on since Friday night, but I'm still having no luck! Don't worry: new camera is on my Christmas list! So, I'm giving you a hodge-podged post here so you can see what we did at school last Friday.
Hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving week!
Ms. Davis received the most money in her coin drive jar, so she had to take a
in the face! She put on her scientist goggles and pulled her hair back and took that pie in the face like a champ! I think the kids thought she was going to get really upset if she got the pie in her HAIR!! You did a great job, Ms. Davis!
Coach Rooks ended up getting a pie in his face, too, so the kids got the best of both worlds!

Our Field Trip to Sci-Quest

We went to Sci-Quest yesterday and had SO MUCH FUN! We washed clothes, cooked lunch, played in a tree house, and played music on a life-size piano in the Children's Playhouse. We also played with the burping machine (I know, yuck!), tried to build a water dam, played virtual soccer, experienced an earthquake, and so much more!! We had a really good time - many of us said we were going home to ask our parents if we could come back sometime!

Sci-Quest continued...

After we'd played in the playhouse and explored in the science shop, we went to see experiments performed by the Science Chef, with our help, of course. We learned many cool experiments that we can try with household items - WITH AN ADULTS HELP!!

Awards Day

Yesterday was Awards Day @ BC. Certificates were awarded for All A's, A's & B's, and Perfect Attendance. Here's our class after we received our awards. Congratulations, kiddos!

This one's for you, Tomas!

Yesterday, instead of our a Friday Squiggle, each student had a blank sheet of paper to draw on. Tomas made me a crown with his paper - very creative! Then, he gave it to me and wanted to take a picture.
Thanks, Tomas! It's very sweet that you think Mrs. Davis is "queen of our classroom."

Check out our Book of the Week at the bottom of the page. I'll change the book weekly. You can click on the little "eyes" for a larger image...read this book with your family!

Compare and Contrast

We've been using Venn diagrams to compare and contrast. Today, we read a passage abour alligators and crocodiles and then compared and contrasted the two. I told the kids that part of their homework tonight was to think about how apples and oranges are alike and different. They might need your help to jump start their thinking! They are going to make their own Venn diagram very soon to compare apples and oranges.
