Week of August 25-29

Hello! Things are still going great. I'm sure your kids told you that we added a new 2nd grade unit at Banks-Caddell, so some of our classmates moved to Ms. Taylor's room upstairs. We now have 18 students in our classroom.
I can tell that most of you have been reading the passages at home with the kids! They seem to be doing really well. We'll be tested very soon in DIBELS, and I'm excited to see how well we do.
I'll be adding Math facts to the binders this week. They need to be completed and returned by Friday. We'll have a test Friday.
Thanks for your help and support!

Homework Binder and Reading Passage

Hello, everyone! Just wanted to remind to help your child with his or her reading passage each night. Most of you are doing an awesome job of timing your child nightly and recording the WPM (words per minute) and initialing to let me know you listened to your child read! Thanks!!!
We'll test on this passage Friday, so the more practice he or she gets, the better your child will be able to read it!

Our first week of school is going great! I really appreciate your support and help from home! You can't know how helpful it is. Your child is supposed to be writing homework down each night and remembering to complete it and return it to school each day. Make sure you're studying those spelling and vocabulary words all week!

Please call or email if you have any questions or concerns.

Our First 2 Days of School

Our first two days of school went great! We've been working really hard on getting our class and school routines down so we can get down to business next week. If you did not receive a packet of forms, I'll be sending them home Monday. Please fill those out and send them back to school as soon as possible.
Don't forget: your child will be bringing home a binder Monday. In it, you'll find a newsletter, a reading passage, spelling and vocabulary lists, and a math facts sheet. You'll also find a letter with information about how to work with your child on the reading passage. This is something I ask that you be very diligent about. I'm also putting your child's lunch number in the binder so that's something we can make sure we memorize. Most of us already know our lunch numbers.
Don't forget to return the binder each day!

Can't Wait!!!

Hello, everyone! I really enjoyed meeting most of you at "Meet the Teacher" tonight. I'm really glad you came and I can't wait to start 2nd grade with you this year!
Thanks, parents, for bringing your kids! I can tell we have a great group of supportive parents - I can't tell you how wonderful that is to me!
For those of you who couldn't make it tonight, I look forward to seeing you Thursday! Remember that breakfast starts at 7:10 and school starts at 7:35.
We'll be discussing the Olympics for the first few weeks of school. If anyone has any interesting information or artifacts they'd like to share, let me know!
Thanks again!
