Let's Work Together...on Addition Facts!
We need your help in 2nd grade!! We've worked on making addition flash cards for each student to keep in their backpack. We've been working on addition for awhile now in 2nd grade, and we're getting better. We want our 2nd graders to know their addition and subtraction facts automatically! This will make everything else we do in 2nd grade so much easier!!!
This is something I'd love for you to help your child with at home, also. If you have other children at home, this is something I'm sure they could use extra practice with, too. If your kids get bored at night (or they've had their TV quota for the day), practice addition/subtraction facts with the flash cards!!
Your child should work on the facts sheet that is sent home each week and return it on Friday. We're taking a TIMED test each Friday. I was very lenient this week with my grading...it's going to get tougher!

We held the torch today!!!
Ms. Davis caught us in an exceptionally good line in the hallway and we were awarded the torch today! Way to go, class!!!
WOW!! Look @ our plants grow!!!
Remember when we planted our seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, kidney, or pea)? That's only been a little over 1 week and look at them grow! We can't wait to see how much bigger they get in another week (that is if Mrs. Davis's not-so-green thumb can keep them alive that much longer, with our help, of course!)...

We are talking about living things in 2nd grade. We've discussed the differences in plants and animals. We know that living things need food, oxygen, and sunlight to survive. Last week, we each planted a seed. We planted sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, peas, and red kidney seeds. We recorded our observations and we can't wait to watch our seeds and see what happens in the next couple of weeks!!

Today, the Litterbug came to visit 2nd grade! EEWW! We learned a lot last week about taking care of our earth when we read For the Love of Our Earth. We knew so much about it we were able to help the Litterbug and his team decide what to do with trash...throw it in a garbage can and bag it up so it doesn't litter our beautiful earth!!!

Please buy a t-shirt for your child!! They are $6 - this is what they look like, except WILD will be written in zebra print. We'll wear these shirts on field trips and on special days. Each 2nd grade class will have its own color shirt. It'll make it so much easier to find my class when we're in a crowded place. The shirts are really cute and I'd love for everyone to have one!
$ and order forms due September 17th

September 2-5
This week, we'll be reading For the Love of Our Earth. Don't forget that school pictures are Wednesday, the 3rd. Our Grandparent's Day lunch will be held this Friday, the 5th. If your child has someone coming to eat with them, please fill out the lunch form that was sent home so our lunchroom will know approximately how many lunches to fix. This will aid in getting through the lunch line quicker on this busy, crowded day.
We had a school-wide Fun Friday last week, where we watched a movie and had popcorn! The students who had participated in every Fun Friday up until that point were invited to attend. We'll be starting our month of Fun Fridays over this week, so encourage your child to think before acting!!
We're still doing really good on our reading passages. I'm so excited to have such great support from my students' parents! You'll see the benefits of these passages as your child's DIBELs score continue to rise!
Thanks for all of your hard work!
Kelsey - I'm going to keep you as student of the week this week because I didn't get a chance to make sure you got to see yourself on our website! I'll make sure tomorrow at school that you get to see yourself on the Internet!
